Health & Fitness Metrics that Guide
TRAINING DECISIONS
Peak VO₂
The highest rate of oxygen use by your body during a maximal exercise test—the gold-standard measure of your aerobic fitness. Knowing this aerobic ceiling lets you definitively track your fitness progress.
Maximal fat oxidation (fatmax)
The specific exercise intensity at which the body oxidizes lipids at the highest absolute rate. Pinpointing this metric establishes the optimal training zone for improving metabolic flexibility and preserving glycogen stores.
Ventilatory Thresholds
VT1 (Aerobic Threshold) is the initial metabolic shift toward carbohydrate oxidation and the onset of blood lactate accumulation. VT2 (Anaerobic Threshold) is the maximum sustainable workload before uncompensated acidosis induces rapid fatigue. Ventilatory metrics provide the foundation for building a training intensity distribution program that optimizes for targeted training volume.
How it works
1.
Turn on the device & connect to the app
The app provides a simple user interface that allows for seamless onboarding, bluetooth connectivity, calibration, and assessment selection.
2.
Complete the guided assessment
Perform your selected fitness or metabolic assessment with real-time, active-session cardiorespiratory and metabolic metrics.
3.
Reivew Your End-of-Assessment Reports
Your data are converted into objective performance markers such as VO₂, VOC₂, RER, and ventilatory thresholds, giving you precise training zones and repeatable benchmarks for progress.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
While the device was developed by board-certified physicians, has advanced medical-grade sensors, and offers most of the same metrics as a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET), it is technically not an FDA device and it is not intended to diagnose or treat any diseases.
-
The device directly measures the volume of oxygen you consume and carbon dioxide you exhale both at rest and during exercise assessments.
-
There are four active-session screens that are viewable in the app to all users - Performance, Cardiac, Ventilatory, and Metabolic Fuel and Efficiency. These screens will display VO₂, heart rate, minute ventilation, respiratory rate, respiratory exchange ratio (RER), power/pace/watts (if connected to fitness equipment), O2 Pulse (a surrogate for cardiac stroke volume), O2 pulse trend, ventilatory efficiency (both the value and trend), tidal volume, and substrate oxidation (grams of carbs and fat burned). The end-of-session reports include advanced graphs, comprehensive metric summaries, and training intensity distribution recommendations for paid subscribers.
-
Our device was developed with quality and precision at its foundation. We calibrate and test against our in-house gold standard metabolic calibrator, The VacuMed. This ensures that each device meets a very high degree of measurement accuracy.
-
There are six assessment choices - peak VO₂, peak fat oxidation, exercise economy, resting metabolic rate, high-intensity intervals, and open session. The assessments range from about 10 minutes to 20 minutes. The assessment time can be tailored to a user’s preference by selecting open-session.
-
A quick pre-assessment calibration is performed by the device before beginning an assessment. Calibration using a standard 3 liter syringe is recommended weekly, if a user is regularly using the device.
-
No. You use the mask for periodic assessments. The app then uses those assessment to set your zones, track your progress, and guide your regular, mask-free training.
-
Yes, the PeakVO₂ app can be used with your Apple or Android smartwatches.
-
No. But we believe you deserve access to the same tools that elite athletes use. Whether you are chasing a podium or simply optimizing your health, Peak VO₂ provides the physiologic dashboard you need to evaluate your progress and build a better engine.
-
Standard watches estimate, we measure. Watches and rings rely on optical sensors (PPG) to track heart rate and GPS to track pace, feeding that data into predictive algorithms to guess your oxygen consumption. That’s not to say that these devices don’t have a place in fitness training, they do. Peak VO₂ uses direct, breath-by-breath gas exchange—physically analyzing your actual O₂ and CO₂ ratios. It’s the difference between guessing your horsepower based on the speedometer, and plugging a diagnostic scanner directly into the engine.

We expect devices to ship July, 2026.

About US
Founded by physicians who understand the demands of endurance training firsthand, Peak VO₂ Analytics was built on a simple belief: cardiorespiratory fitness is too important to be left to guesswork.
It is one of the strongest indicators of human health and performance, yet accurate metabolic testing has historically been expensive, inconvenient, and limited to specialized labs.
We are changing that by bringing lab-grade metabolic insight into everyday training. Peak VO₂ Analytics helps athletes, coaches, and health-focused individuals move beyond generic estimates and understand how the body is actually responding to effort.
